Royal Star

We scratched up some nice grade yellowtail on the coast this morning and a handful of yellowfin offshore in the afternoon. We will be at the dock tomorrow at 0700 and in until after the New Year.

After a calm night on the anchor, we looked for yellowtail in the morning. We scratched up a couple per angler before heading back offshore. In the afternoon we had a three hour drift on 25-50# bluefin. It was fun, plunker style fishing with 1-4 going till dark.

We searched offshore today in slightly better than forecast weather. We found a few schools that would boil around and not bite. In the afternoon we saw one school of yellowfin and caught a couple, but they didn’t bite well. We ran into the coast for a calm night and will be at it again in the morning.

We are back on the water after the Christmas holiday. We are out for 4 days and heading down. We saw some small boilers today of 15-60# bluefin, but they were uncooperative. We will be offshore looking tomorrow.

A few days post arrival we continue to enjoy the fruits of the voyage with family and friends. A fine conclusion to the voyage that featured a full day fixed to the bottom amidst an ocean brimming with quality tropical yellowfin. All day long big fish surrounded us near and far crashing around demolishing ours and local baits. The majority of the show on our baits was on those less hooks but anglers adapted and fooled the wily bastards 23 times. 100-185 was the size range making every battle won a victory to be enjoyed by many in day and weeks to come. A short ride at days end found us fast to the bottom at lands end. Most anglers will disembark tomorrow in favor of the express route north while the boat cruises home. Nothing to report in the way of tuna after a fine ride across the pond. A few hours in the zone late ended on a high note with fun as heck variety action. Though it did little in the way of displacing RSW in the tanks a few handfuls of delicious snappers were highly prized. A delicacy in so many preparations we’ll be partaking in a few ourselves as head Chef Alex Banuet serves them fresh on board tomorrow. Otherwise the final day of fishing, number ten of twelve on this run, is now upon us. One last trick up our sleeve not too distant will set our anglers in prime position to conclude their voyage on the highest of notes.

Didn’t feel the love this morning prompting an early departure from our productive zone in search of. Plying the waters all day several areas of spinner dolphins provided both thrilling visuals and all of the tuna action found. But for a couple standouts the size range of the yellowfin were below our target but the action was thoroughly enjoyed. Regardless of production it was a beautiful day overall with fantastic scenery and epic weather. A looking mission well worth the effort our local knowledge once again expanded through fishing the old fashioned way. That said we’re old school enough to know when it’s time to extend the hunt to new zones afar. On the move at day’s end we’ll squeeze in plenty of fishing time in the zone of choice tomorrow.

Different day that began on the right note, showed promise in the middle, then ended with a thud. Damn. As is so often the case in offshore fishing one day has zero bearing on what happens the next. We caught a nice couple handfuls but missed the mark we were aiming for. The weather - perfect; conditions sublime. Awaiting the big push tomorrow will see us in search mode if this zone falls flat early. Another round in the big fish arena produced scratch results on beautiful grade fish. Mostly 80-150’s, and a few that bumped up against the 200 mark, made the relatively modest numerical result well worthy of defined success. Throw in a full day of perfect, gorgeous weather and the package was complete.
